Lourdes Killeen

Mrs. Lourdes Killeen has been a long-time participant and supporter of Catholic education.  She was born in the Bronx, New York and graduated from Saint Luke School before moving to San Juan, Puerto Rico with her family at the age of 15.  She holds a dual bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Special Education from the University of Puerto Rico.

For 18 years, Mrs. Killeen worked at Robinson School, a college preparatory school in San Juan. During this time, she was given the opportunity of teaching various grades, kindergarten through sixth grade. After teaching for 10 years, she became the elementary school principal, a position she held for eight years. Upon returning to New York and settling on Staten Island in 2004, Mrs. accepted a job at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St. Benedicta School where she taught kindergarten for 16 years.

As an educator, Mrs. Killeen believes that every child is special and unique. Her role as the teacher is to assist each child in developing her own potential and learning style. She incorporates hands-on learning, cooperative learning, projects, themes, and individual work that engage and activate student learning. Her goal is to help children grow academically and to instill the desire to learn, while having lots of fun.

Mrs. Killeen knew she wanted to be a teacher since she was in elementary school, and working with children is her passion. She is very excited and honored to be a part of the NDA faculty. Most importantly, she is thrilled to be the second grade teacher this year at Notre Dame Academy.
